Elevate b’ball clinic advocates education, sports balance

Hundreds of young athletes under the age of sixteen gathered at Rowe Park in Lagos for the third Elevate Basketball Clinic. During the weekend program, organizers trained the youths in game skills while urging them to balance their sports dreams with their schoolwork, rather than giving up their education.

The program founder, Akinwande Oshodi, wants to use the game to empower youth and teach them lifelong values. His mother noted that a sports injury once ended Oshodi's own playing career, but having a solid education helped him build a better future and continue supporting other young people.

Returning student Abdulkareem Abdulraheem explained that he practices basketball three times each week without ignoring his classroom studies. Clinic leaders stated that the overall program, which began in 2024, is designed to guide young citizens toward personal growth by teaching them vital traits like leadership and discipline.
