Covenant varsity, experts seek solutions to Nigeria’s food crisis

Covenant University partnered with a development group called Innovation for Poverty Action to host an academic summit. During the event, scholars stated that higher institutions must use their studies to tackle hunger across Nigeria. They explained that a lack of food directly harms people's health and makes it difficult for children to learn.

Experts at the gathering pointed out that local farmers face heavy troubles today. High prices for seeds and fertilizers, unpredictable weather changes, and safety issues in rural areas damage crop production. Additionally, because there are few proper storage facilities, a large amount of harvested food rots before it can be transported to markets.

To solve these problems, speakers asked researchers to design cheap cooling equipment and quicker transport methods. They also noted that new technology should offer realistic help to poor families rather than just looking modern. Finally, they urged universities and outside organizations to work closely together so these research ideas can truly reduce hunger.
