Breaking: Tinubu cancels popular recruitment requirement for federal universities

President Bola Tinubu has ended the rule forcing federal universities to seek permission from the civil service before hiring workers. The Federal Ministry of Education and university councils will now control recruitment on their own. This update comes from recent union deals and aims to give institutions more freedom to manage their staff.

The president announced this through a representative at a graduation event in Bauchi State. He revealed that the government is also moving higher institution workers from the IPPIS payroll system to GIFMIS. This switch is designed to make salary payments faster, boost honesty, and better match how universities operate daily.

Furthermore, the government has already given eight billion naira through TETFund to develop the health university in Azare, with extra projects planned for 2026. Another ten billion naira is dedicated to the national research fund in 2026 so that higher institutions can discover solutions to important health problems across Nigeria.
